The National Hurricane Center on Monday said a Caribbean system has a high chance to form into Tropical Storm Melissa this week with some forecast paths having it turn north and threaten landfall.
As of the NHC’s 8 a.m. tropical outlook, the tropical wave located in the eastern Caribbean Sea had a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms.
“The system is moving westward at 15 to 20 mph towards the central Caribbean Sea and is expected to slowdown over the next few days,” forecasters said. “Environmental conditions are forecast to become more conducive for development, and a tropical depression or storm is likely to form over the next few days.”
