The national average gas price has fallen under $3 a gallon - the earliest in the fall that has happened since COVID-19.

The national average on Monday, Oct. 20, is $2.98 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com .

That price is 19.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 15.2 cents lower than a year ago.

AAA has the national average price at $3.04 today.

In the Harrisburg area today, the average price is $3.12 a gallon, almost 7 cents lower per gallon than a week ago.

“Gas prices have finally fallen below $3 per gallon nationally — the earliest date we’ve seen a $2.99 national average since 2020, when COVID was the primary driver of low prices,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
