RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Republican proposed redistricting map for the state are off to a favorable start with the North Carolina Elections Committee voting in favor on Monday morning.

The Senate is scheduled to vote later in the afternoon, and with a GOP majority in the both the state House of Representatives and the Senate, odds of the maps receiving a passing vote are high.

North Carolina Senate Leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Destin Hall announced the proposed redistricting earlier last week, stating it was intended to protect President Donald Trump's agenda.

"President Trump earned a clear mandate from the voters of North Carolina and the rest of the country and we intend to defend it by drawing an additional Republican congressional seat," Hall said in his statement.
