Some federal workers shopped at Bremerton Foodline for the first time last week, as they continue to work without pay because of the ongoing government shutdown.
Foodline Development Coordinator Morgan Huffman said 52 new households showed up during a two-hour shopping period on Wednesday, Oct. 15, created exclusively for military and federal workers in response to the three-week-old shutdown.
“We took a look at all the things that were happening and decided that we want to serve those who are serving us,” Huffman said. “We decided to actually expand our hours so we could have an exclusive shopping time for our military and federal workers.”
