A report of a person pointing a rifle at motorists on the 105 Freeway in the Vermont-Athens area on Monday, Oct. 20, resulted in stopped traffic and one person getting taken into custody.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 9:10 a.m. to the Vermont Avenue overpass, where a passerby had said to the California Highway Patrol that a boy or a man, wearing tan clothing, pointed what appeared to be a long gun at motorists.
The CHP closed all freeway lanes at the Sheriff’s Department’s request.
“Deputies detained someone matching the description,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
It was unclear if the detained person actually had a rifle or some other object.
The freeway was reopened about 9:50 a.m.
