ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rockford teenager was arrested after police say he tossed a handgun while running from police.

Officers were called to the 2900 block of Sitka Lane for a motorbike complaint around 2:45 p.m., Sunday.

When officers arrived, they were told the drivers had taken off, but one witness said they saw one of the drivers toss something as they were running through their backyard.

A Rockford Police K-9 led officers to a loaded handgun.

The 17-year-old male suspect was found nearby and arrested after a brief foot chase.

The teen is charged with possession of a firearm, aggravated possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest.

He was released to a parent.
