The Bremer Avenue bridge construction took a huge leap forward Oct. 16 when the construction crew poured concrete for the new deck.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the pour took 12 hours. It had originally been scheduled for Oct. 15 but was delayed one day because of rain.

The deck required 93 truckloads of concrete poured through two pumps at three locations, totaling just over 814 cubic yards, the DOT reported.

“To put that in perspective—that’s enough concrete to build 2.5 miles of 5-foot wide, 4-inch thick sidewalk!” the department’s Facebook post said.

Next in the project, crews will begin forming and pouring the barrier rails on both the north and south sides of the deck starting this week, the report said.
