Government agencies are becoming increasingly wary about the use of artificial intelligence in consultancy work, according to those in the sector, as accountability experts call for greater transparency in the use of the technology for government work.

Greens senator Barbara Pocock, a critic of the government use of consultants , has questioned outsourcing key program analysis as she believes it should be done in-house by the public service.

It can also be revealed that in the last financial year, Deloitte won $5.9 million in contracts for consultancy work similar to the assurance review it did for the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).
