The work safety regulator punished five Canberra workplaces for failing to report sexual assaults on staff after being notified of a result every two days in the last financial year.
Since June 2023, Canberra workplaces are required to tell WorkSafe ACT any time a staff member is suspected to have been, or definitely was, sexually assaulted at work.
WorkSafe ACT received 140 notifications, primarily within the healthcare and social assistance industry, in 2024-25.
Five organisations were issued infringement notices for failing to notify the regulator of a sexual assault.
WorkSafe issued Canberra Health Services, the directorate running the ACT's health system, an improvement notice in May 2025 for being unable to prove they had trained staff on how to report.
