Minister of Education Paul Calandra is moving toward making good on his promise to fire a Catholic school board trustee who hasn’t repaid expenses for a controversial trip to Italy in 2024.
A statement issued by the ministry said Chandra introduced legislation on Monday that, if passed, would remove Mark Watson, the trustee representing Haldimand on the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, from office and bar him from running for a trustee position in any school board in the 2026 municipal election.
Watson would be ineligible to fill a trustee vacancy on any Ontario school board until after Nov. 14, 2030.
