Gov. Dan McKee is warning that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for Rhode Islanders will be cut off if the government shutdown continues past the end of October.
Approximately 140,000 Rhode Islanders receive SNAP, formerly known as food stamps.
In an Oct. 20 press release, McKee said that the Trump Administration has informed Rhode Island that the United States Department of Agriculture will not distribute SNAP benefits to states during the shutdown.
