DALLAS — It’s a tax you’ve likely never heard of.

But you’re paying for it.

For decades, small businesses in Texas have been hit with the business personal property tax, also known as an “inventory tax.” If a small business has inventory – from desks, to equipment, even the raw material used to make its product – valued at more than $2,500, the business owes taxes on all of it.

Prop 9 would raise that exemption from $2,500 to $125,000, a significant jump that would provide significant tax relief for small business owners.
