Stop us if you've heard this before: The New England Patriots are adding a defender who played for Mike Vrabel.

The Patriots have claimed linebacker Caleb Murphy off waivers following his release from the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, the team announced Monday. NFL Media's Tom Pelissero first reported the move.

The Chargers' decision to waive Murphy was a bit of a surprise; the 25-year-old appeared in each of Los Angeles' first six games and was a fairly regular contributor, with 129 snaps on defense and 118 snaps on special teams (fourth-most on the club). Murphy tallied 12 tackles, 0.5 sacks and a QB hit in those six contests before being waived ahead of the Chargers' loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunda
