BANGOR – A man accused of breaking into A Penquis Business over the weekend and threatening police with a bomb was in court Monday.

Forty-eight-year-old James McAllian appeared via Zoom and was charged with burglary, theft by unauthorized taking and criminal threatening.

According to police, officers found McAllian inside the closed Venture Way business. When officers announced their presence, McAllian told them he had a pipe bomb and threatened to detonate it.

Police said they were able to talk McAllian out of the building. The Bangor Police Bomb Squad later located the alleged pipe bomb and determined it was not active.

Because the charges include a felony, McAllian did not enter a plea. His bail was set at $20,000 cash, and if released, he is barred to any Penquis facilities.
