SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Officer announced police responded to a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian around 9:43 p.m., Saturday, on Pine Road.

Officers arrived to find a man, identified as 27-year-old Adrian Antonio Cruz of South Bend, dead on scene.

Initial reports determined a passenger vehicle, driven by 58-year-old Thomas Leroy McCoy of South Bend, was traveling north on Pine Road when he struck Cruz who was walking north in the roadway.

McCoy and his passenger were uninjured.

Authorities say McCoy consented to a blood draw.

McCoy was released pending toxicology results and further investigation.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is investigating the incident. Share
