The family of an Alabama high school cheerleader is keeping vigil at her bedside as she clings to life following a gunshot wound to the head at a weekend party.
Kimber Mills, 18, was shot early Sunday in a wooded area near Alabama 75 and Clay-Palmerdale Road known as The Pit.
Three other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and a 27-year-old man has been charged with murder even though Kimber is still alive.
Kimber, the youngest child in her family, remains in critical condition at UAB Hospital. A GoFundMe has been started in her honor.
One of her sisters, Ashley Mills, said Kimber is not expected to survive.
“She has too much trauma to her brain,” Ashley said Monday. “She is breathing on her own with an assisted breathing machine.”
