IONE, Wash. – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) Police shared an incident on social media related to potential unlawful big game hunting after a witness reported a man seemingly hunting elk with a rifle during archery season.

DFW Police said that the reporting witness informed that while they were elk hunting, they encountered another man using a cow call and “acting suspiciously.” The man told the witness that he was just out for a hike.

The witness later set up a camera on the trail, which captured the man returning to the area carrying a rifle.

DFW officers attempted to contact the suspect at his last known address. While they were there, a car drove into the driveway “and then suspiciously took off,” DFW said. The license plates on the car returned expired.
