MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Boy Scout Troop 53 set up a recruitment booth at Kentucky’s oldest running festival this weekend, seeking new members as the group rebuilds after folding during the pandemic.
Chase Fitzpatrick, patrol leader, and fellow scout Kal-El Honshul worked the booth at Mt. Sterling Court Days, promoting their program among the festival vendors.
“Join the boy scouts. It has all that type of stuff and more, like first aid and fitness,” Fitzpatrick said.
The troop currently has just four members but is actively recruiting. Scout Master Mark Rossetti said the group focuses on outdoor skills and building relationships.
“Teaching the boys how to light a fire, set up a camp,” Rossetti said. “It’s going to take time to grow.”
