FARIBAULT, Minn. — For the first time in seven years , China did not import any soybeans from the U.S. in September due to the trade war.

Soybean farmers have been hit particularly hard by the Trump administration's tariffs with China retaliating and choosing to stop buying American soybeans in May.

President Trump is promising a bailout for farmers with reports of it being at least $10 billion. But with the government shutdown, it's unclear when farmers could see relief.

Last Wednesday , Gov. Tim Walz and agricultural leaders visited a fifth-generation, family-owned farm in Faribault to discuss how tariffs are impacting soybean farmers.

KARE 11 political reporter Danny Spewak asked the governor what he thought about a farmer bailout.
