STATEWIDE, Colo. (KKTV) - Many saw their first freeze of the season this past weekend in southern Colorado. As the cold season creeps in there are steps you need to take to winterize your home, including some outside with your sprinkler system.

It’s better to blow out your sprinkler system earlier in the season. The last days to do this are coming up too.

Shane Gifford from Yard Crafters in Cañon City told 11 News, “I would like to err on the side of caution. People always want to water a little longer. you can always do several back-to-back cycles to do a deep root water to sustain it. I would say have it done by the end of October, first of November.”

Higher elevation areas tend to freeze first, so you’ll want to winterize earlier compared to lower elevations communities.
