PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - New data from Pitt County Schools shows that 81 students in the district are not up to date on their immunizations.
The number represents 1.5% of students in the three grades required for immunization: kindergarten, seventh and twelfth grade.
A Pitt County Schools spokesperson said the numbers were “very low” and nearly identical to last school year’s figures.
Parents expressed mixed views on childhood vaccination requirements.
“It could not only spread to other kids, but everybody else,” said Judy Ewell, a Pitt County parent who supports vaccination requirements.
Ewell said the 1.5% rate is concerning.
“It’s a little high for kids not being vaccinated,” she said. “It should be lower.”
