Amid an ongoing budget crisis, Harvey officials will temporarily furlough more than 40% of the city’s workforce.
According to a press release from Mayor Christopher Clark, the decision was the “one of the hardest” he’s had to make in his seven years in office, and that he had to make the decision to try to save the city’s long-term financial health.
“This was not an easy decision,” Clark said in a statement. “It was one of the hardest we’ve had to make. But as mayor, my responsibility is to make sure this city survives, not just today, but for the future of the people who live and work here. Every step we are taking is about keeping Harvey alive and positioned to rebuild stronger.”
