A rapist who attempted to fake his own death and fled the United States to evade capture has finally been imprisoned. Nicholas Rossi, who moved to Scotland and lived under another name, claimed to be an Irish orphan but has now been unmasked and sentenced to a five-year stretch. ‌

Rossi has consistently denied his guilt in the 17 years since he raped two women, even suggesting before sentencing yesterday that the victims were fabricating their stories. He was eventually arrested in Scotland, 13 years after the assaults , having fled the US for the country. ‌

An online obituary claiming Rossi had died of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer , appeared some months before his arrest. However, Rossi, aged 38, was at last put behind bars yesterday for five years aft
