As the Maple Leafs met the media for the first time since goaltender Anthony Stolarz offered his close-to-the-bone critique of his team’s lax performance in Saturday night’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken, there were some predictable responses.

Craig Berube , the old-school head coach, said he would have preferred if Stolarz kept his critiques in house.

“Players get frustrated and sometimes they say things they (should) just keep in the room,” Berube said. “But w e always want players to hold each other accountable in the locker room.”

Auston Matthews , the captain, applauded Stolarz for his “passion, his fire.”

“I think he’s an honest guy. He just kind of tells you how it is. There’s not really any holding back,” Matthews said.
