MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- Myrtle Beach's five mayoral hopefuls appeared Monday night in Market Common for a wide-ranging debate ahead of next month's election.

Candidates for the city's top seat along with those running for council gathered for the forum hosted by the Market Common Civic Organization and moderated by retired News13 anchor Bob Juback.

Public safety was major talking point, with some heated exchanges and a focus on police officer recruitment.

All five candidates attended: Daniel Aumen, Incumbent Mayor Brenda Bethune, longtime city public information officer Mark Kruea, former mayor Mark McBride and local real estate agent Eva Rigney.
