Local organizers are once again making San Francisco dazzle this year in honor of Diwali, the Hindu festival of light.
The five-day observation period — which typically begins in late October or early November in the Gregorian calendar — started Saturday. The third day, which fell on Monday this year, represents the height of the festivities.
Several celebrations will fill The City’s streets with live entertainment, music and dancing in honor of the holiday later this week after Diwali concludes. Those behind some upcoming extravaganzas say residents can expect colorful displays of South Asian culture and tradition.
Diwali offers “an invitation to gather, celebrate resilience and share joy together,” said Non Stop Bhangra co-founder Vicki Virk, whose artist collective dedicated to cha
