CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The North Carolina Department of Transportation is proposing a departure reduction for the ferry system from Minnesott Beach to Cherry Branch.
Many people take the ferry every day, with various time slots to choose from. It provides livelihood for those in Craven and Pamlico counties and supports the economy.
“I work in Cherry Point,” said one ferry user.
The ferry runs twice almost every hour until 10 p.m.
But DOT is proposing a 43% reduction on departures, something the community isn’t happy about and is ready to fight for.
“There isn’t a lot of shopping in Pamlico County, so they come to Craven County so the amount of money to spend in Havelock and New Bern would be greatly impacted,” said Dennis Bucher, the Craven County chairman for District 7.
