ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)---The HEART Act, which stands for Helping Equal Access to Registrations for Transplants, repeals a more than 30-year-old state law.

Now, all New Yorkers needing organ transplants will be able to put their names on multiple lists throughout the state.

"It reduces the mortality on the waitlist for certain organs," explained Aisha Tator, Executive Director at Donate Life New York State. "It is just incredibly beneficial for people to be able to diversify and make sure they have the greatest access to a transplants because at the end of the day, they need that organ transplant to save their life."

Democratic State Senator, April Baskin, said this will be especially beneficial for New Yorkers on Medicaid.
