The Minns' Labor government has announced they will spend $190 million to bring Northern Beaches Hospital back into public hands after the banning of public-private ownerships for acute hospitals under "Joe's law".

An in-principle agreement with private operator Healthscope and its receivers will see 494 beds at the hospital return to public ownership, with the hospital moving to the direct control of the Northern Sydney Local Health District by the middle of next year.

Chris Minns claimed his government's plan to use taxpayer money will reverse a poor decision to have the Northern Beaches Hospital taken out of public ownership.
