FRANKFORT, Ky. —
Kentucky is stepping up to ensure older adults don’t go hungry.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced a $9.1 million transfer from a General Fund appropriation in fiscal year 2026 to Medicaid for “Medicaid Reimbursement Rebasing Efforts” for the Senior Meals program.
“This wasn’t a routine or regular movement of budgeted dollars,” Beshear said. “It required we find a usable, specific pot of money.”
The administration emphasized there have been no cuts to the program, which received $10 million for the current fiscal year. Area Development Districts have already exhausted those funds. A similar shortfall occurred last year and was covered by federal ARPA dollars and state funds, but those sources were not available this year.
