CAMANCHE, Iowa (KWQC) - In Camanche, city leaders are eyeing a $4.2 million expansion to their library .

It’s a project some believe is money well spent while others feel voters should close the chapter at the polls next month.

The story of Camanche’s library started in 1965 when a local family sold their home to the city, but since that date, there hasn’t been much done to keep the library up-to-date.

“So, this is problematic,” said Andrew Kida, Camanche City Administrator. “It just becomes a matter of square footage. In addition to the fact that this library has continued to expand programs and do more things, more activities. You know, libraries aren’t about checking out books necessarily anymore, there’s a lot of other things that they do.”
