ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Two Springville police officers received high honors for their response to a gun incident at Springville High School on Oct. 7 , when a student with suicidal thoughts brought a weapon to the school cafeteria.

School Resource Officer Jason Brooks and Mental Health Officer Dave Weal were recognized by city leaders for their quick action that ensured all students walked away from the cafeteria safe and unharmed.

Officers responded within minutes

Mayor Dave Thomas said Brooks made it to the cafeteria in only two minutes and everything was handled quickly.

“When the SRO came in, he was first, and he told all the students to drop their bags and leave the cafeteria, which they did - thankfully,” said Mayor Dave Thomas.
