A Liverpool councillor has claimed he was followed and filmed in an "intimidating" manner after confronting a group who were hanging England flags in his community. Cllr Alan Gibbons, leader of the Your Party political group on the council and representative for the Orrell Park ward in north Liverpool , made the allegations.

Cllr Gibbons, who famously ousted Labour to win his seat as an independent in 2023, said he was out litter picking on Saturday morning when local residents informed him that a group of men were going around the area hanging St George's flags.

Cllr Gibbons said: "I was doing a litter pick and someone came up to me and asked if I had seen that Orrell Park had been covered in flags."
