Gabe Angove hasn’t played a lot of football this season.
The senior lineman has seen mainly mop-up duty for St. Mary Catholic Central.
But in the biggest game of the season, Angove was in the center of it all.
The Falcons, ranked No. 2 in the state for Division 7, was missing seven starters for its showdown with undefeated Jefferson on Friday, Oct. 17.
Angove and the others were undaunted as they held off a team averaging more than 45 points per game in a 20-15 victory.
“We had a great week of practice,” SMCC coach Adam Kipf said. “Everyone stepped up. Even the guys who were out were helping the other guys on the sidelines.”
Three of the missing starters were offensive linemen.
Angove, the smallest lineman on the roster at 5-11, 170 pounds, slid into the starting job at center.
