Police have uncovered what they believe could be human remains near highway town Charters Towers, in Queensland’s north.
On Monday, officers uncovered the remains at Breddan, a rural area on the outskirts of Charters Towers, which sits along the Flinders Highway about 140 kilometres inland of Townsville.
The remains had yet to be formally identified and no cause of death had been established, but police declared a crime scene shortly after finding the remains.
Police provided no further details about the exact location of the grim discovery, but said investigations were continuing on Tuesday evening.
Charters Towers is a key stop along the Flinders Highway, which connects Townsville to Mount Isa. It is home to about 8000 people.
