An unexploded shell dating back to the time when portions of the Monongahela National Forest were used to train U.S. Army troops for combat in Europe during World War II was found by a hiker last week in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area .

The shell was discovered and reported to U.S. Forest Service personnel on Wednesday , and removed and safely disposed of on Thursday, according to a post on the Monongahela National Forest's Facebook page. Outdoor Pursuits
