NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A new study by the Pew Charitable Trusts named Tennessee one of the most vulnerable states to the risks of tariffs.
The study assessed states' imports as a share of gross domestic product, manufacturing intensity and trade dependency to determine which would face the most negative consequences of tariffs. The analysis found Tennessee to be among the most vulnerable due to its deep ties to manufacturing and its high percentage of imports on the state's GDP.
According to the study, Tennessee imported about $120 billion worth of goods globally in 2024, accounting for 21.9% of its economy — higher than the nation's 11.2%.
