Nuneaton's £3.5m A&E expansion which will 'transform care for the sickest patients' is now open. A key part of the emergency department at the George Eliot Hospital has been made bigger - the crucial resuscitation department.

Its capacity has been doubled from three to six beds and there are new create support spaces which includes a relatives room. The expansion comes as the already under-pressure A&E braces for winter.

The unit is preparing for even more pressure due to seasonal illnesses and increased patient numbers. In fact, so far this year, the 'Eliot has seen a seven percent rise in demand for emergency care.
