KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — October is National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month, and several organizations across East Tennessee are working to support mental wellness and recovery.

The Mental Health Association of East Tennessee (MHAET) is one of those groups, aiming to change the way people think about mental health.

Statistics from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration show that one in five American adults will have a diagnosable mental health condition in any given year. However, the Mental Health Association says about 60% of those individuals do not receive the treatment they need.
