EUFAULA, Ala. (WTVM) - Nestled along busy Highway 431 in Eufaula, or what locals call Eufaula Avenue, sits Shorter Mansion. It was built in 1884.

“It’s just a historic mansion that people always see as they drive to the beach. We have lots of visitors that you know have driven here [for] years and decide, Oh my gosh, I need to stop.“

Eli and Wileyna Shorter spared no expense toward this home. They focused on the small details as Susan Newman, Executive Director of Eufaula Heritage Association, pointed out.

“The columns are exact replicas of the outside,” she said. “There’s 17 columns outside, 6 inside. If you look on the top of the column, there’s a medallion that has an ‘s’ inside of it. All that plaster work is done by hand, which just blows my mind.”
