JAMESTOWN — Ben Smith needed some help this season.

He found some.

"I fell into this position through Coach Ben Smith," Sulinke VanDenBerg said. "I took a position as his assistant coach for the college team and then also got into coaching the high school girls. This is my first year and season with the Blue Jays and I am loving every minute of it."

VanDenBerg started swimming competitively when she was about 12 years old. As she improved and matured physically, VanDenBerg began looking for swimming opportunities at the collegiate level. Her longtime coach, Simon Gray, introduced her to Jamestown.

VanDenBerg is originally from Bloemfontein, South Africa. She came to Jamestown as a freshman in August of 2021. She swam for four seasons for the Jimmies.
