NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (WWLP) - The North Adams Police Department is alerting the public after receiving multiple reports from residents saying they missed calls appearing to come from the department’s main phone number, (413) 664-4945.

According to police, none of the calls originated from the department. Officials believe the number is being “spoofed” — a tactic used by schemers to disguise their true phone number and make it appear as though the call is coming from a trusted source.

“None of these callers were contacted by our department,” police said in a statement. “It appears that someone is spoofing our number and making phone calls.”
