The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board are to discuss the city’s balanced housing plan and a year-to-date summary of housing entitlements at their upcoming study session.

The study session begins at 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at 20 E. Main St.

According to a board presentation, Mesa estimates a total housing supply of 226,071 in the year 2025 with a housing need of 205,788, resulting in a surplus of 20,283 homes. In 2026, the total housing need is expected to go up to 207,953.

The presentation says the total housing need will expand every year over the next few years, and will reach 216,612 by 2030. This is due to a projected population increase, as the projected population of Mesa in 2030 is roughly 543,900, compared to the current population of 528,888.
