IKEA is coming to Washington, D.C. – but don't expect a megastore where you can pick up a Billy bookcase or grab an order of Swedish meatballs.

The furniture retailer is moving its “plan and order point” store on Hayes Street in Arlington's Pentagon City to Georgetown. The plan and order point stores are where customers can work with IKEA team members to plan bigger projects, such as a kitchen redesign, then get furnishings shipped to their home.

A spokesperson for the company says IKEA hopes to make its plan and order store more accessible to customers in D.C. Currently, IKEA’s website lists locations in Maryland and Virginia, but none within D.C.’s boundaries.
