A small earthquake shook up part of New Jersey on the afternoon of Oct. 20, according to the U.S. Geological Survey . This marks the state's first quake since August.
The 1.6 magnitude quake occurred at 2:46 p.m. about 1.2 miles east-northeast of Califon, a borough in Hunterdon County, USGS said. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 3.1 miles.
As of the morning of Oct. 21, 17 people reported to USGS that they felt the quake. Of those, seven reports were out of Califon.
Long Valley had the second highest number of reports with a total of four, with the remainder of the reports trickling in from multiple towns including Lebanon, Far Hills, Basking Ridge, Beverly and Nutley.
