Fall River police arrested a person of interest in connection with the stabbing of former Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan.

The arrest took place at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, the police department wrote on Facebook .

The identity of the person has not been revealed, but police wrote that they will do so after the individual is arraigned on charges.

“We would like to thank all of the detectives and officers who worked tirelessly into the early hours of the morning to collect evidence, review camera footage and obtain witness statements, all of which led to the swift apprehension of the suspect,” the police department wrote.

The stabbing happened at around 5 p.m. on Hartwell Street in Fall River, according to the city’s police department .
