New York City residents can start voting for their next mayor on Saturday, Oct. 25, as early voting begins ahead of the Nov. 4 general election.

BK Reader recently caught up with former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an Independent, as he courted voters in south Brooklyn.

Cuomo noted his desire to increase the city's affordable housing stock, his focus on public safety by adding officers to the police force, and creating opportunity and jobs. Recently, he indicated he would expand the Gifted & Talented accelerated education program in public schools and double the number of Specialized High Schools in the city, a hot button issue for many Brooklyn residents.

"The needs in Brooklyn are pressing," for all communities, he told BK Reader. "It's all the same."
