A small earthquake that rumbled on the south end of Salt Spring Island was lightly felt across the region on Tuesday morning, including on Vancouver Island.
The 3.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded around 5:30 a.m. south of Ruckle Provincial Park, and about 13 kilometres north of Sidney, according to Earthquakes Canada.
By approximately 8:30 a.m., nearly 70 people reported feeling the earthquake to Earthquakes Canada, with most of those reports being a “two” on the organization’s 10-point intensity scale – or “weak.”
Many of those reports came from the Salt Spring Island and Saanich Peninsula areas, though some people as far away as Victoria, Colwood and Cobble Hill reported feeling the shaking.
The earthquake rumbled at a depth of 16 kilometres, according to Earthquakes Canada.
