NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - An early Tuesday morning traffic stop put a man behind bars because North Charleston Police say he had a weapon despite a previous conviction.

Armando Jerry Zamorano, 26, of North Charleston, is charged with possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, according to jail records.

Police say an officer was on proactive patrol in the area of Dorchester Road and Apartment Boulevard when they saw a driver make an illegal U-turn, leading to the traffic stop.

While conducting the stop, the officer reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.

The officer requested assistance and all four people in the car were removed and searched.
