The mak-warép Ohlone Land Conservancy, working with Cal State East Bay’s Concord Campus, CAL FIRE, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, and the Contra Costa Resource Conservation District, will hold a ceremonial cultural burn covering less than one acre at the Concord Campus off Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Concord.

The burn, according to organizers, continues efforts to restore Indigenous-led fire practices in the East Bay, honoring Ohlone cultural traditions and improving the ecological health of the land. The project aims to reduce invasive grasses, improve soil conditions, and restore native plants used for food, medicine, and basketry.

Smoke may be visible on Saturday, October 25, near Cal State East Bay’s Concord Campus at 4700 Ygnacio Valley Road between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
